Starting a new project: This is what I would do to overcome feeling overwhelmed

Starting a new project-what is the moment that best describes what happens at the very beginning?

I can describe it with a very easy word:

INSECURITY.

You start from scratch. You do not know the people. You know nothing about the topic. You feel like a blank piece of paper.

You reach out to the major stakeholder for the first time. You have no clue how to address your first message. Should you write a mail? Is a chat message ok? Even if you write in English, should you be very formal? Use the full name or only the first name?

How to overcome these feelings?

There is no way to not feel like this at the beginning. Getting out of your comfort zone means insecurity.

What you can do is to collect all relevant information. Gather everything you can to be at a good stage. Maybe ask other people how to address things, how to speak to a person.

Or just figure it out.

In all terms: Insecurity means also growth on the long run.

Here is what I would do when starting a new project:

  1. Do your research. Collect all information you can get. But set yourself a timeline.
  2. Identify the stakeholders. What are their departments, what are their interests?
  3. Create a project plan. Just very rough to come into action. You can add more information and timelines later.

And my last add-on:

Simple get started.
